Rims & Tires

BMW E24. Rims & Tires
I

nitially model 635 CSi was supplied with tires 205/70 VR 14 or 220/55 VR 390.

A good compromise between the increase of controllability and practicalness is the set of 16 inch rims. But the maximal disk diameter which is harmonious enough with the coupe exterior is 18".

Technically it is possible to put something bigger and wider. But in my opinion, it looks like an atavism.

Compatibility

All wheels from 5-Series E12, E28 and E34 fit perfectly.

7- and 8-Series wheels E32 and E31 not wider than 9,5J are also compatible. Otherwise the hubcentric rings must be used.

E39 5-Series wheels require the hubcentric rings.

E36 and E46 3-Series wheels won’t fit. Some unique hubcentric rings may solve the problem.

Alpina

In my opinion one of the most interesting rim designs has been made by Alpina company. I've bought and restored them completely.

In the front axle — 8,5J R17. In the rear one — 10J R17.

One of the most popular defect of these rare rims is the lack of center caps (#3613609; new number #3610053). This is not the cheapest part which is very hard to get in used condition. The complete set of new caps costs approximately 450 USD.

BMW E24. Rims & Tires

This set of rims was not an exception. It needs new center caps, it needs to be rolled flat and repainted. I've done everything in a service-center at Berezhkovskaya Naberezhnaya 20, which in my humble opinion is the best place to work with rims and tires.

The size of tires set up on rims was 235/40 front and 275/35 rear.

Investment

Name Price, $
Rims 500
Roll-flat and repaint 400
Rubber 500
Center caps (used) 50
Total: 1450

Hi, very nice Alpina rims. I am considering upgrading from original M6 BBS rims (1986 model) to Alpinas. Any suggestions on suppliers? thanks! // Evan
